Retinol
Question: What is the difference between Retinol and Retinyl Palmitate? What do they have in common? I sell a popular cosmetic and I have a client that is allergic to Retinol. My products have Retinyl Palmitate. Can she use these products without an allergic reaction?
Answer: retinol is pure vitamin A.retinyl palmitate is a vitamin A derivative(not pure vitamin A)a weakened down version and not as strong.
retinol is a proven skin firmer.if someone is allergic to retinol there is every chance she will be allergic to retinyl palmitate.try it on a small area first.if she is allergic it will show up quite quickly
Question: How to heal a bad reaction to skin caused my retinol? I purchased an over the counter cleanser and moisturizer that contained retinol and I had an allergic reaction to it. It really dried out and irritated my face. It's kinda flaky right not it use to sting and was really red but that has gone down. I thought retinol was suppose to be good for your skin. (it was a very low dosage they were over the counter products). Anyways is there something I can do to heal up my skin or should I just let it heal on it's own?
At this point a moisturizer stings my skin so I CANNOT use that
Answer: The only thing that *may* work right now is petroleum jelly (unscented). I wouldn't try anything else at this point. Nothing is going to heal it other than time. It takes about 2-4 weeks for new skin cells to reach the surface. Until then, petroleum jelly may help to minimize any burning or pain you may feel.
Retinol is NOT good for your skin and should only be used under the advice of a dermatologist. Any skin care that burns or tingles is NOT good for your skin no matter what the sales person tells you. There is no "getting used to it" timeframe or anything of the sort.
So when trying something new, try it first in a small area to see how your skin reacts... especially if you have sensitive skin.
If you have skin issues, like acne, see a dermatologist. Sales people are not as well trained as they appear.
Question: When you apply retinol creme, can you use a moisturizer as well? I have just bought some retinol creme, and Im wondering if you can put a moisturizer on over it at night time. Will the moisturizer deminish the effect of the retinol? I guess Im just basically asking how to apply it with other skin products, of if you can. Thanks for any advice.
Answer: no you cant use the 2 together
Question: Is there a way to tell if a retinol cream had expired? I have this retinol cream that's been in my drawer for God knows how long. There's no expiration date on it so I can't tell if it's been expired. It's never been opened and the seal is still intact. Can it still be used?
Answer: One of the most common ways of treating acne is the use of retinoids. Retinoids are substances derived from Vitamin A, which attempt to cure acne by normalizing the lifecycle of follicle cells. There are two types of such substances, based on application: external (topical) and oral. The best known external retinoids are Retin-A, Differin and Tazorac, while the oral retinoids list is headed by the popular Accutane.
However, about one quarter of the patients who used Accutane or other drugs based on isotretinoin may relapse and require additional treatment.
But the biggest drawback of retinoids is the long list of side effects, which sometimes makes retinoids look like a disease rather than a cure.
The most common side effects are dry skin and nosebleeds. Many patients have also reported liver problems, while a few complained of depression. However, the scientific community is still split on the issue of depression. More seriously, isotretinoin is known to cause birth defects, which is why female patients have to use two separate forms of birth control or vow abstinence during the treatment. Pregnant women are not allowed to use anything but the mildest treatments.
The bottom line is that retinoids are a good idea if one can cope with the side effects. This begs the question: why not use something just as effective, but without the side effects. Acne treatment systems, such as ClearPores:

are also popular because of their success in dealing with the condition, but lack the extreme side that makes retinoids a pain to use. The choice between these treatments is yours.
Question: Why does my skin tingle when I use a cream with retinol? I have a face cream with retinol that tingles a bit when I use it. Is that normal or a good thing? My dermatologist says retinol is good for the skin.
Answer: yes it's normal and retinol is good for skin..
the stinging is a sign that dead skin cells are exfoliated and you feel the sting because it's new skin resurfacing which reacts to the topical treatment you apply.. it should go away soon.
Question: Where can I get Retinol Renewal complex, or Retinol acne treatment besides prescribed by doctors? Can you get Retinol treatment for acne in stores?
Does anybody know where to get some besides prescribed by dermotologist?
Answer: its an ingredient in ati-anging wrinkle removing creams which u don't need a prescription for.
Question: Is there an ance serum that contains tea tree oil, Hyaluronic Acid, and some form of retinol? I like Oxycerin, but i do not know if it has any Retinol content.
ALL TOGETHER. I like the form "serums".
Oxycerin is close but i cannot find anywhere to view full ingredients.
Answer: Why not try adding tea tree oil to your favorite brand? Make a 5% solution.
A rough formula for getting the approximate amount of tea tree oil per milliliter of shampoo is to divide the number of milliliters by two and add the results in drops to the product.
For instance, if you have 100 mL of shampoo, divided by two, the result is 50 mL. You would add about 50 drops of tea tree oil to create a roughly 5% solution. There are about 60 drops of tea tree oil per teaspoon, so you can see that this will give you a close approximation.
Question: Is retinol naturally found in the human body? I'm doing a project on vitamin A, retinol. I need some info on it please, and i really want to know if it's naturally found in the human body.
Answer: Pre-formed vitamin A (retinol or retinyl esters) is found in liver, vitamin tablets, and fortified cereals. Beta-carotene is found in fruits and vegetables and is converted to vitamin A in the body.

Question: Does retinol really work for fine lines? Does retinol really work for fine lines around the eyes?
Im 24 and have recently formed fine lines around my eyes.
Answer: Hi,
Retinol is a form of vitamin A. Vitamin A / retinols are the main component of anti-aging products. If you believe in anti-aging cremes etc, then go for it. There should be some reduction in fine lines as you may notice tightening of the skin.
"Vitamin A in a topical form have shown to reduce aging symptoms, acne symptoms, and improve complexion in general. The prescriptive drug Retin-A is much more aggressive, but many over-the-counter off shoots are sold as retinols, which are similar, but less intensive. Retinols may be a good place to start if you do not have a dermatologist or you have skin prone to sensitivity and dryness. The usage of products in either family require additional sun protection and potentially moisturization as the skin adapts to the treatment."

Question: Can I get Rx strength retinol without going to the doctor? Does anyone know if and where I can get Rx strength retinol?
Not the cheap OTC stuff that has very little.
Answer: As the "Rx" implies, it is available by prescription only. Retinol can have some bad side effects, which is why it is by prescription only.
Question: Is there side effects using retinol A on your face? I want to use a anti-wrinkle cream but I also want to protect my skin. Is there a proper way of using retinol A? Do you recommend a product that would be good to start out on.
Answer: Retinol A can cause irritation, itching and burning when you first begin using it. It also can cause sensitivity to the sun. The best thing to do would be to use a mild moisturizer with it and sunscreen during the day.
Retin-A and Tretinoin are available in several strengths, but you have to go to a doctor or dermatologist to get a prescription. The closest you'll find over the counter is RoC. That company has a number of different products that are lower strength.

Before I get a prescription I would like to see if there are any good over the counter retinol products. Has anyone had good experience with any particular product?

Question: using a glycolic peel and retinol cream? I use an over the counter retinol cream 30% regularly and just did my first glycolic peel 35% last night. Outside of a little bit of stinging and some pinkness during the peel, I have no lasting irritation. My question is: Can I continue to use my retinol cream in those wrinkly places on my face while doing weekly glycolic peels?
Thank you for your help.
Answer: Be careful. That sounds like a lot of harsh stuff on your face. I would cut back on one or the other. You could certainly get a serious sunburn if you get any sun while using so much of those products.
