School Cafeterias
Question: Do you think having Pizza Hut in school cafeterias contributes to obesity in America? My high school just put Pizza Hut Express in the cafeteria, and I think it's a little ridiculous.
Answer: no because nobody is shoving the pizza in your face. everyone has the choice to eat what they want to eat
Question: Why do tv shows still try to make us believe kids eat in school cafeterias? For example I was watching a certain program about affluent teenagers, who come from rich families, and they were eating food purchased from the schools cafeteria. First of all, rich kids go out for lunch at lunch break. They do not eat at school during lunch lol. They sure as hell don't eat food that the lunch lady makes. How stupid does tv think we really are?
Answer: My high school is closed campus too, and we're one of the richest public schools in Oregon! We can't leave till' school is over, not to get lunch or anything.
We all eat in a cafeteria, but not like what i see in most TV shows. (lunch lady with a bucket of slop, etc...) I always eat healthy from the cafeteria because we have the choice of simple turkey sandwiches with tomatoes and lettuce, baby carrots, and milk. That's my usual lunch. But not everyone eats like that at my school. :P
Question: What kind of pizza sticks do they serve in school cafeterias? When I was in High School they served individually wrapped pizza stick things. Now I'm trying to figure out what brand they are because of an intense craving ha. I've tried to look it up but I haven't had any luck. Can anyone help me!?
Answer: I think that its going to be really hard to find which kind you are looking for. beause there are thousands of different kinds of pizza that they sell for the schools. but good luck
Question: Does anyone know of a frozen pizza that taste like the pizza in school cafeterias? Remember how good the pizza was in school. It is the only thing I miss about school. I occasionally get a craving for it. I have recipe but would like to know if there is a frozen pizza you can get that tastes like it.
Not the pizza they serve in schools today. You will have to be at least 40 years old to remember it.
Answer: When I went to school, what they called liberally pizza was a roll-like thing with a scoop of seasoned mystery meat in the middle and a few shreds of welfare cheese on top. Nevertheless it was still a favorite.
Question: What are 3 healthier food suggestions for school cafeterias? Just name 3 foods that REALLY need to be in cafeterias that benefit the health of students.
Most schools already serve milk and other dairy-based products.
Answer: 1) Avacados
The Power: Oleic acid, an unsaturated fat that helps lower overall cholesterol and raise levels of HDL, plus a good dose of fiber. One slice has 81 calories, 8 grams of fat and 3 grams of fiber. Try a few slices instead of mayonnaise to dress up your next burger.

Question: Anyone know the Stromboli recipe they serve at school cafeterias? I have been searching and searching for this recipe since I was in school! and that's been a while. I would love to make some at home but can't seem to find it anywhere? does anyone know what i am talking about? The layer of ham, cheese, bread, sprinkled with parsley on top?!?! I don't know for how long it's been on the menu but i know i was in Junior High school about 10 yrs ago when i first tried it!
Answer: I used to cook for a fairly large preschool, and this is the recipe I used.
Stromboli
1/2-3/4 lb ground beef
1 can Pillsbury Pizza Crust
1/4-1/2 cp spaghetti sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded cheese, either mozzarella or Cheddar or a mix
1/4 cp chopped green/red peppers and/or onions
some Italian seasoning
Parmesan cheese, grated
Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Heat oven to 400.
Brown ground beef, peppers and onions, drain.
Unroll dough, spread on cookie sheet to form a rectangle, 12x8. Spread sauce on dough to about 1 inch from sides.
Place meat mixture down center of dough lengthwise, topped with cheese and peppers. Fold lengthwise and pinch edges to seal.
Bake for about 15 min until top turns brown. Let cool and cut into about 6-8 slices. Use extra sauce for dipping .
You can always switch out the meats, this was just the kids fav.
Good luck!

Question: Are high school cafeterias open to the public? I just remembered how much i loved stop sign pizza in school, just wondering if i could stop by and grab a slice without getting arrested.
Answer: i dont know about the high schools around you, but there are so many people wandering around during lunch time. you could easily just walk in there, get some lunch and leave. as long as you dont look like youre not supposed to be there, nobody will think twice. worst case scenario they ask you to leave.
Question: What would you think about getting rid of school cafeterias? And just having all the students bring lunches from home? What are some of the pro's and con's to this idea? How would you solve some of the problems that might come up because of it (like kids who can't afford to bring lunch for example)?
Hmmm ... I'm surprised more people don't know this but kids under a certain income get free lunches at school.
Answer: I wouldn't want them to get rid of cafeterias because eating cold food all the time gets old and little kids can't prepare hot foods for themselves. It would be nice if lunch programs used better, fresh, organic foods and got rid of processed foods as much as possible so kids grow up healthier.
Question: Should only healthy foods be served in school cafeterias? I am doing a debate and I need pro and con arguments!
But moslty pro arguments because I am on the pro side.
Answer: Yes ... It's shocking how many parents don't make meals for their children anymore, and that might be the only healthy meal they'll eat all day! You can just look at the answers on Yahoo to see how many kids are "fending" for themselves! In addition, many people can't afford to buy fresh fruits and vegetables now; or the parents themselves may be too ignorant to know proper nutrition......... I actually can't think of any cons!
Question: Should french fries and other unhealthy foods be banned in high school cafeterias? Hola. I'm doing a civics project for my grade ten class. And i was wondering what some other people's opinions were. Thanks :)
Interesting answers everyone. Thanks for responding. *Directed to Lil E - Where do you live roughly? That's interested. Do you mean banned in your cafeteria?
Answer: I don't think they should be completely banned, but maybe less of the unhealthy foods should be served. Most schools use processed food in their kitchens because it is cheaper and easier to prepare. As a result, the kids have to sacrifice and they can gain weight which leads to bullying and other self esteem issues. I understand that you must keep the price of school lunches reasonable, but I think most schools could make a better effort and finding better food for students. It wouldn't kill the cafeteria ladies to make some things from scratch like some FRESH fruit salad instead of the canned variety. They could also prepare foods ahead of time in the week and keep it in the refrigerator until the time of use instead of freezing everything. Offering healthier options in the lunch line could also be a choice. If kids still want to choose the unhealthy food, that is fine, but at least you have giving the students a chance to make healthy decisions instead of just serving them processed foods without a choice. Some unhealthy foods can be made into a healthier version very easily. For example, you can cut up potatoes and bake them as french fries. Chicken nuggets can be substitute with a baked piece of chicken. Processed mashed potatoes can be replaced with homemade mashed potatoes. Brown rice can be substitute for white rice. White bread can be replaced with whole grain bread. Canned fruits can be replaced by fresh fruits. Canned vegetables can also be replaced with fresh. Although it costs more, I think it is worth it because it contributes to a possible chance in the lifestyle of every student in the school and it gives a good example of the proper diet each person should follow.
Question: Where does the food from school cafeterias come from? 2 points for first correct answer? Also do you like the food
i dont eat it i bring lunch
Answer: The basics are bought from a food service, but our cooks make the meals. Whether you like them may depend on what flavors they use to make your meals. And your area may determine what ingredients they use. Some places have better-tasting foods than others...
Question: Where can I buy Taco Pockets like the ones in school cafeterias? Who has actually bought taco pockets like the one in schools?
If you know of a place that actually sells them...close to San Francisco, please tell me: whether it be a grocery store or online.
Also, who know who makes them: like what company manufactors them and stuff.
NOT HotPockets, like the ones you buy at Safeway or whatever: they're not the same. I want the ones that the schools have, they are so freaking good.

Question: Should middle and high schools allow snack/vending machines to be placed in school cafeterias? I'm trying to come up with 3 reasons why they Should or should not place vending/snack machines in middle and high schools. Thanks for all your ideas.
Answer: They should be allowed to because....
1- In middle/high school kids need to learn how to make their own food choices. They are old enough at this age to judge what they should eat.
2- They are convenient if a child forgets her/his lunch. That way they have snacks available to them.
3- They benefit the schools. A portion of the money made from vending machines go to the school.
Question: What are 3 Pros for healthier choices in school cafeterias? I just need 3 (more are welcome (: ) pros of having healthier selections in schools.
Answer: Well, there are so many! But the three I can think of:
1. Foster healthy eating habits at an early age/combat childhood obesity. 2/3 of Americans are overweight, but it doesn't take statistics to tell there is a problem in America - just look around! The life expectancy in the US has been slowly declining...due to poor lifestyle :(
2. Demonstrate that eating healthy can taste good. I think it's important that the "healthy choices" are well prepared and taste good. Who wouldn't like fresh fruit, vegetables, lean meats, etc. if they were introduced at an early age?
3. Raising awareness of what you eat. Well, I believe in the "You are what you eat" mantra. Perhaps cafeterias could post nutrition information for everything they serve - if people knew what was in what they were eating (calories, fats, sugars), maybe they would be encouraged to make changes to a poor lifestyle.
Question: Are school cafeterias eventually going to have to serve babby for all the atheists? Religious equality and whatnot.
Answer: Since when did school cafeterias ever serve anything as delicious and nutritious as babby?
