Tissue Growth
Question: What pro/con experiences have resulted with Scar Tissue Growth? Years ago I survived the battle of Dysgerminoma Cancer, major slice - N -dice butchery was preformed during exploritory surgery. From hip to hip/pelvic line(some might call it...bikini line)and from the middle of this area, they cut straight up and about 4 inches above my belly button.
I think the scar tissue under my skin is thickening/growing.
What makes scar tissue grow?
Why does scar tissue grow?
What health issues have developed with scar tissue growth?

Question: If you are a bodybuilder, do you frequently use growth hormones or other compounds to stimulate tissue growth? I am doing a school project on IGF-1 which is stimulate when people inject growth hormones into their body. I wanted to know what percentage of the bodybuilding population uses HGH/GH to enhance themselves and what percentage doesn't. Thanks ahead of time, and if you know of other people you work out with that do or do not use GH, could you give me those numbers as well? Such as 3 of the 7 I know use them?
Answer: Go to the following site and you will get some idea of how many users there are:
http://forums.steroid.com/
I have used both HGH, testosterone and a few other steroids including the best one, dianabol but that was before they made it a felony to have possession of the stuff. Probably 80-90 % of the best body builders have used something at some time. Jose Canseco wrote a book on the athletes he knew who had used roids so you might want to check out his book, "Juiced". Also check out this site; http://forums.steroid.com/ It has some hard core users on it.
Question: The difference between new skin tissue growth and pus? I posted a question earlier about treating a possibly infected scrape I got from playing rugby. the scrape is on my knee and around 2 inches in diameter. the scrape was originally red, it has now formed a completely white substance over the whole scrape area. I have been cleaning the scrape with Hydrogen peroxide, then using a triple antiseptic cream before bandaging my knee. I am now unsure if I should be trying to clean off the white substance (if it is pus) or leave it to continue re-growing layers of skin (white tissue growth).
The white substance appears to be "sticky" and slightly yellow in places, it is not too painful to touch, and doesnt appear to have an odor, although the smell of the peroxide overwhelms everything.
Answer: They way you tell if it's infected is if it is red and swollen. Scabs will turn all kinds of colors, but if the surrounding area is raised and red (or if the red is starting to spread further than the scrape) then you have an infection. Don't use the peroxide or cream anymore. You need to let the scab get hard. Just cover it losely. Soon, you can leave all cover off of it. If it gets all red, then you need to see a doctor.
Question: Medical: Is there a certain disease having to do with scar tissue growth abnormality? Whenever a friend of mine scrapes his knee or ends up with some sort of wound, it takes almost months for scar tissue to develop. I know that's not normal, so I was wondering if anyone knew what that was called, so I could look it up more.
Thankss. :]
Answer: It's not a disease, it's called keloid, and you can find info here:

Question: Can I achieve desired breast tissue growth by taking Proscar and Spiro only? Wondering if leaving out any estrogen meds would matter given the above scenario.
Answer: You would be wise to listen to Radgal and Please Please do not medicate you could be risking your health and life on it.
Question: Is a growth of living tissue a part of the person's body? A growth, such as a tumor or lymph node, is living tissue; right? As such; is it not part of the person on, or in whom it is growing until removed? Would the same theory not apply to a fetus?
Answer: Nice try, but "growths" that you describe are actually part of the person's body. Even cancer cells are part of your body. A fetus is a separate organism that is growing inside your body.
So, no, the same theory would not apply.
Question: If I am flat-chested, will messaging my breast tissue still stimulate breast growth? Yeah, unfortunatly I am totally flat-chested. I mean, I have a little bit of breast tissue, but I can't even fit into the smallest bra there is. If I massage my breast tissue in circular motions, could it simulate breast growth even though I don't have much tissue? Also, if I do breast exercises will it simulate growth? Is there anything else I could do? My whole family has average sized boobs and I'm not too old to develope... I just want to speed up the process.
Answer: From a medical standpoint, I am completely unaware of any effective massage, drug, or therapy to increase breast size. You really are at the fate of genetics for this process, and no amount of rubbing, stretching, or massaging will speed up the growth process. If this was the case, massaging your feet would make them the size of clown feet!
Exercises that build your pectoral muscles (the same ones that men have) will make the muscle underneath stronger and generally give your breasts a lift and increase their size slightly.
Other than that, time, genetics, or surgical operations are your only feasible options. I would stay away from the latter until you are much older.
Question: How are the effects of human growth hormone (hGh) somatotropin mediated at the tissue level? I think it has to do with the fact that they stimulate several tissues to secrete insulin like growth factors? Can someone let me know if I am on the right track?
Answer: Maybe reading these two articles will put you on the right track:
http://jas.fass.org/cgi/reprint/69/4/1601.pdf
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/abstract/sci;239/4841/769
Frankly, I have no idea. I would never, ever consider taking HGH for any reason.
Question: How long untill tissue-engineered growth plates can be applicable on humans? Scientists seem to be able to succesfully recreate growth plates, but when will this technology be applicable on humans, how many years will it take for it to be available on the market?
Are there any articles, interviews, etc. regarding this question?
Answer: If you are talking about artificial bone epiphyses - this is going to take a decade at least.
Other tissues are already being used - predominantly skin in burns victims, where a small sample of their skin can be taken and grown in a lab to be laid on their burned areas.
Question: If penis growth is based on tissue growth, what kinds of food will give you a penis growth.? They should be healthy because I'm going to be a UFC fighter.
Answer: if you wife"s" SUCK IT . My wife did it and mine is the size of the twin towers
Question: Which of the following hormones stimulates growth of muscle tissue and increased muscle mass? Which of the following hormones stimulates growth of muscle tissue and increased muscle mass?
a)epinephrine
b)thyroid hormone
c)testosterone
d)parathyroid hormone
e)calcitonin
Answer: Testosterone. It is a steroid, similar to the type that athletes use illegally. This is also why women have a harder time increasing muscle mass.
Question: When wanting maximum growth of muscle tissue is it necessary for the 48hrs rest before working on it again? Even if that particular muscle feels in top shape do i still need to let it rest for 48hrs??
Answer: For maximum growth you need to rest your muscles - this is when they repair themselves and become stronger.
This does not mean you cannot weight train every day - you just need to alternate the muscle groups, for example:
Day 1 - chest and biceps
Day 2 - quads and calves
Day 3 - back and triceps
Dav 4 - shoulders and hamstrings
Day 5 - rest
repeat from Day 1
Question: What tissue forms epiphyseal (growth) plates in kids bones?
Answer: It is intramembaranous ossification if I remember correctly.
Whereas endochondral ossification is responsible for the initial bone development from cartilage in utero and infants, the epiphyseal plate is responsible for longitudinal growth of bones. The plate's chondrocytes are under constant division by mitosis. These daughter cells stack facing the epiphysis while the older cells are pushed towards the diaphysis. As the older chondrocytes degenerate, osteoblasts ossify the remains to form new bone. Around the end of puberty, the epiphyseal cartilage cells stop duplicating and the entire cartilage is slowly replaced by bone, leaving only a thin epiphyseal line
look up osteogenesis in either wikipedia and/or utube
Question: tissue growth supplement? Hello all, I'm wondering if any of you know a vitamin or pill that helps/supports/promotes tissue growth. I've recently begun to work out a lot, and I'm not a fan of the protein drinks. I get my protein via foods. My friend said that B12 helps repairing and promotes tissue growth, which will help after my workout sessions. Should I buy B12? It's not that expensive, and is there any other supplements?
Answer: Hey-
That's awesome you've started to work out, but that's actually all you need! There's no reason to go out of your way to get more vitamins, minerals, proteins or any other nutrient. You actually said the key point in your post - you'll get everything you need from your diet. There's no magic pill.
Just remember that when you start working out, you need to take in more calories to support muscle growth (this means increased protein intake anyway). In fact, a lot of us already get more protein than we need - too much protein can be detrimental to your workout program (and over the long term if you take in excess protein for an extended period of time).
As far as vitamin B12, you don't need to go out of your way to get this either. People say it increases metabolism, supports muscle growth, etc., etc. Although true, these statements are extremely misleading.
First of all, any amount of vitamin B12 that your body doesn't use is excreted in the urine. You're not going to magically use the B12 to somehow boost metabolism. The reason the marketers can boast numbers like 8,000% B12 is because B12 overdose doesn't have any known side effects, aside from causing your urine to turn neon green (because of the reflective properties of the B12 molecule). This allows them to use the "more is better" idea so they can stay out of legal trouble (people won't get sick because there aren't any side effects).
Healthy adults only need about 2 micrograms of the stuff per day, that's 0.000002 g per day. There's really no need to go out of your way to get extra B12 unless a doctor says so. Because B12 is found in all the red meat, chicken, some fish and eggs, you're probably getting enough B12 (unless you're a vegetarian).
Your liver also stores B12 for long periods of time in the bile acids, which are responsible for helping digest fats and fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A,D,E and K). That's just a side note though. What I'm saying is even if you don't get enough B12 in any given day, you may be getting a small amount from the bile (it's recycled over and over).
The best advice I can give is to make sure you're eating a balanced diet, including the right amount of proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Most people tend to use the 50/30/20 rule (or 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% fats). This is in terms of calories, so 20% of your calories will be from fats (not 20% of what you eat is fats...no!). In most cases, it's not necessary to take in excess protein in the form of shakes.
Just in case you were wondering, B12 is only used in 2 chemical reactions in the body (but they're extremely important!). One of them involves the formation of methionine (an amino acid required for making DNA molecules, so in this way it supports growth of tissues) and the other is involved in the breakdown of odd-chain fatty acids. But remember, more isn't better! Yes, it does help with tissue growth, but so do all the other vitamins. Marketers don't want you to know this because the other vitamins have side effects resulting from overdose (they don't want to sell you 8000% B1 or B3 if they know you're going to get sick from it - they'll have lawsuits on their hands). In short, you need all the vitamins for tissue growth - they'll all required for life continue. But don't worry, you're getting them all from your diet!
Here's a ton more information on vitamin B12 should you desire...

Question: Will a hair growth product work on scar tissue? Hey, so my friend has a bald spot-scar tissue from surgery when she was really young- and she is tired of having people ask her about it. So, I was wondering if a hair growth product would work? Or does it not work on scar tissue?
Thanks
XX
Answer: Depending on the scar type, she may be able to get a partial hair transplant. If the hair follicles were damaged, hair products may or may not work. Really only a doctor can answer this question.
