Vitamins Supplements
Question: Vitamins? Supplements? Im trying to join the Coast Guard by May of 2010 and I need to lose about 70lbs. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of any vitamins or supplements that could help me in this feat. And Im not talking creatin or anything like that. Im talking natural stuff like fish oil and all that crazy stuff ha.
Answer: My grandma has been taking this stuff http://pkenstad.gnld.net/weight_loss.aspx?STORE_ID=1&NAV_CATEGORY_ID=3230&CATEGORY_ID=3233 and she's loosing weight like crazy. She tried everything before and couldn't loose weight, but now for some reason she is. It's safe too. This company has been around for 51 years.
Question: What vitamins/supplements should a vegetarian take? I recently became vegetarian and I'm wondering if I should take any vitamins/supplements. Which ones should I take? I know a lot of people are going to say I don't need them or that I can get the vitamins from eating other foods, but please can you tell me the vitamins anyway, so I have the option. thanks
Answer: Just a plain ol' Flintstone chewable vitamin. That is all you should need. The B vitamines are imporatant. But if your diet is good you shouldnt have to worry about vitamins.
Question: What vitamins/supplements do you take and why? I take quite a few vitamins, mostly recommended by my doctor -- calcium, vitamin C & E capsule, evening primrose supplement, and a multiple. Plus a probiotic.
But I have heard fairly frequently that all vitamins really do is give you very expensive urine! ;-)
Yet I can definitely tell a difference in how I feel when I stop taking the supplements -- especially the calcium and evening primrose.
Your experiences and thoughts?
Answer: I have taken suppliments for many years, especially star flower, which I used for side effects of the menopause with out the suppliments I felt tired ,dizzy and i sweated a great deal, especially when anxious, I know you should not take them all the time and every now and then you should have a week or tow break from taking them as they work better that way, there are many people who do not believe in herbal medicatione, but they forget that most medication the doctor gives you comes fronm herbs, plants etc.
Your doctor is right, if they work for you, then carry on.
Question: Will vitamins in supplements reach my body if I inhaled its vapors? Vitamin supplements through water pipe, for example. Would the vitamins go into the body?
Mr Doesright, you fail.
Answer: Nope.
Vitamins need to be absorbed in the Small Intestine. There are two types of vitamins, Water Soluable, and Fat Soluable. When chyme(digested food) reaches the Small Inestine, the body begins to absorb all the vitamins and nutrients, they're either directly absorbed into your blood stream, or absorbed by the lymph nodes(fat sol. vitamins A, D, E, K)
They can't be absorbed into the nose, because they won't reach all of the body and will be degraded by the time they reach the other parts of the body.

Question: what are some effects of not taking vitamins supplements at all? My daughter is 13 years old, and she won't take any vitamin supplements at all. She mainly eats junk food, and I'm urging her to take the supplements to get the nutrients that a teen needs.
How can I make her take the vitamins, and what are the effects of a teen not taking vitamin supplements ?
Answer: there is no any side effects if she is not take vitamins
Question: What is the best time of day to take vitamins/supplements? Hi, I've been having some health problems and am now taking vitamins (E and folic acid), as well as supplements (cranberry and yeast), and well as a low daily dose of antibiotics (preventative measure to keep from gettins sick). What's the best time of day to take these pills? In the morning, before I go to work, or in the evening before sleeping?
Answer: The best way for your body to absorb vitamins and minerals is to take them with a meal, and at the same time each day. It doesn't matter when you take them. I have mine just before I sit down for dinner at night.
I ask my nutritionist the same question and that is her answer.
Question: How long does it take for vitamins/supplements to take effect? I am anemic (due to being a vegetarian) and have been suffering from severe fatigue for the past month or so. I started to take a multi-vitamin and extra calcium and iron supplements in hopes that they would improve my health and energy level.
I was just wondering how long it takes for supplements to start working through your system so I know if vitamin deficiencies are something that I should keep looking into.
Thanks.
Answer: Simply:
2-4 weeks
Everybody is different though. Your body will react in a different way.
Question: How long does it take vitamins/supplements to leave your system? I've been having some weird symptoms lately, and am going to the Doc tomorrow. I'm having a blood test, but the thing is, I've been taking things like vitamin b-12, iron, and magnessium supplements (via my StepMoms advice.)
What I'm getting at is, I want my blood to show up like how it would every other day, how I am normally. The last time I took these supplements was yesterday. If my appointment is tomorrow morning, will the blood test be affected by these supplements?
Answer: it takes about a day for pills and vitimans to leave your body, although if you drink a lot of water, it will leave the 2nd time you urinate.
Question: Which vitamins and supplements are good for people who has high cholesterol and heart problems in the family? Both my father and my uncle has had heart attacks and my uncle has also had a stroke.
I already try and follow a healthy balanced diet, and now I would like to know what vitamin supplements will be good to take to help?
Also should I incourage my father and uncle to also take supplements?
Answer: Go common sense natural, walnuts for the best omega 3 and to clean out your arteries, vitamin C, There is an excellent recipe to lower your cholesterol with niacin, psyllium and lecitine in the book “Your heart, your health”. My friend brought his cholesterol down from over 240 to 176..Breathing slowly and intentional and enjoy your life, very useful. Stress is a bad advisor, drink enough water and avoid fried foods...eat healthy.
Also look into EFT the self help technique that covers it all simple in a one minute sequence.
Question: Are vitamins & supplements really good for you? I heard that vitamins, minerals & dietary supplements don't really work. That they are worthless and you are wasting your money & time with them. Does anyone know for sure or recommend how I can find out the truth?
Thanks a bunch!!
Answer: Yes they are! Also with eating healthy things. You will notice a difference. Every time I'd feel like snacking....I would grab a carrot after work or durring work and it became addictive.
Question: for vitamins supplements what does the measurement mg stand for? for example 500 mg of vitamin c . what does the mg stand for. and also i bought multivitamin supplements but on the packet it says ug or something like that theres a kind of line coming down from the u. what does that stand for. and what is it compered to mg is it worth more than mg or less?
Answer: mg is short for milligramme which is 1/1000 of a gram
µg is short for microgram and is 1/1000000 of a gram
Vitamin supplements are best avoided. In the UK at least deficiencies are rare and there is neither need nor therapeutic advantage in taking supplements. Recently there has been increasing concerns about what is effectively overdosing on synthetic vitamins. The fat soluble vitamins are the most potentially toxic, A to the eye, D to the kidney K to the blood clotting mechanism and E appears to increase all cause mortality. The most recent, and one of the most worrying papers concerns women taking multivitamins. There appears to be an associated 19% increase in the risk of breast cancer in women on multivitamin tablets, though further investigation is required to confirm that the risk is causal.
Question: Vitamins & supplements, when to take, how to take, what to take in combination? I take a LOT of supplements. As soon as I see a story on a particular vitamin, mineral or other supplement, I go out and I buy some and then use it for a few days/weeks. But I feel as if I'm wasting my money because I don't really see any difference in how I feel.
I'd like to know if there are particular times of day that it's best to take certain supplements. What vitamins I should take with food and what type of foods in particular. What vitamins/supplements I should not take together. What vitamins/minerals/herbal supplements are recommended for a woman in her 40's with a mild thyroid problem.
Finally, which supplements will have the most impact on energy and brain function. I eat relatively healthy - no fast food, little junk food, lots of fruit, veggies and fish. I exercise as much as I can, but often have little energy or motivation. I'm 20 lbs overweight, but feel it may be due to missing nutrients because at times, I have incredible bursts of energy. Any suggestions??
Answer: Supplements can be beneficial if taken in moderation. You'd probably do best to take a multivitamin on a daily basis and then try one thing at a time for at least 3 weeks at a time, preferrably 6 or 8 to really know if the supplement is helping. Pay attention to whether your energy bursts are related to caffeine or sugar intake OR if they are related to your moods, that is a typical thyroid symptom.
I hate to latch on to a side note in your question, but you have two major concerns as far as your energy goes. The first is a thyroid problem even if minor can cause you to feel really sluggish. I have an enlarged thyroid myself which tests on the low side but normal. I take a small dose of thyroid medication (to hopefully take the stress off and slow the growth of the gland) which helps me to feel better as well. If you have a doctor that recognizes the problem, you should definitely pursue treatment. That alone might help you lose some weight and feel better. Second, exercise is probably more important than the vitamin supplements. You simply need to walk on a regular basis, if you can fit in other exercise too, great. I have lost 37 lbs in the past year and I feel so much better, I had no idea that I even felt so bad! Exercise is the key to feeling great, supplements are a side note.
BTW As far as supplements go, if you can convince your body its food it will get absorbed better and you will get more benefit from it.
Question: Is there any foods, vitamins, supplements that burn calories / fat. Are there any foods vitamins supplements? Is there any foods, vitamins, supplements that burn calories / fat? Are there any foods vitamins supplements that build muscle?
Answer: List of Foods that burn fat:
1. Fruits rich in vitamin C - Citrus Fruits: like limes, lemons, oranges, guava, grapefruit, papaya, sweet lime, tangerines and tomatoes are rich in Vitamin C and fibre and have fat burning properties so they may be called as FAT BURNING FOODS or FAT BURNERS or FIGHTERS.
Vitamin C helps the body process fat faster and also stimulates the carnitine amino acid which speeds up the body’s fat-burning capacity.
Vitamin C dilutes the fat and makes it less effective and helps in releasing the fat from the body.
2. Apples: Pectin in apple restricts the cells to absorb the fat; and also encourages water absorption from the food which helps in releasing the fat deposits from the body. The antioxidants in apples may help prevent metabolic syndrome, a condition marked by excess belly fat or an apple body shape.
3.
Calcium Rich Dairy Products
Calcium in dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt act as fat burner that can boost weight loss by increasing fat breakdown in fat cells. According to Professor Michael Zemel at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, (Obesity Research, April 2004; vol 12; pp 582-590.) a dairy-rich diet with same calorie restriction can nearly double the rate of weight and fat loss. His research has shown that eating 3-4 servings of dairy products a day is more effective at enhancing weight loss efforts than calcium supplementation alone. Dairy products may therefore be termed as fat burning foods or fat burners.
The researchers found:
Overweight people who consumed 3 servings a day of calcium-rich dairy lost more belly fat than those who followed a similar diet minus two or more of the dairy servings. The calcium supplements didn't work as well as milk.
4. Nuts help feel full while also increasing the body's ability to burn fat, says author Jordi Salas-Salvado of the University of Rovira i Virgili in Reus, Spain.
5. Chilies: Foods containing chillies or cayanne pepper are considered to be as foods that burn fat. Chillies contain capsaicin that helps in increasing the metabolism. Capsaicin is a thermogenic food, so it causes the body to burn extra calories for 20 minutes after you eat the chilies.
6. Proteins: Protein rich foods and high fiber foods are the best as foods burning belly fat. Protein needs more energy to digest than fat as so eat low calorie dairy products, beans, whole grains, oatmeal, eggs, etc. as much as possible.
Lentils are high in protein and soluble fiber, two nutrients that stabilize blood sugar levels, therefore lentils are a great tummy flattener," according to Tanya Zuckerbrot, R.D., author of The F-Factor Diet.
7. Some of the other foods that may be included in the list of fat burning foods are asparagus, beet root, broccoli, cabbage, carrot, chillies, beans, soybeans, sweet potatoes, blueberries and watermelon.

Question: Taking Different Vitamins and Supplements Together? I have begun to take a number of vitamins/supplements daily. Here is what I take:
1 vitamin C (to boost my immune system)
1 vitamin E (for healthy skin)
2 cranberry supplement pills (to prevent urinary tract infections, which I am prone to get)
2 apple cider vinegar pills
1 women's One-A-Day multivitamin
I am wondering if taking all these together can be harmful to me? Thanks!
Answer: Jabril is partially right... taking the extra Vitamin C (which is water soluble) at the same time may be more than your body can absorb, so the excess may be excreted if you took it all at once. Taking those two at separate times of the day would be your best bet.
As far as the Vitamin E, it depends on the potency in each of those. Vitamin E is fat soluble, so getting too much can build up in your system and getting too much over time could build up to toxic levels. Generally, most people should stick around 400 IU of Vitamin E per day, but some people need more and some need less.
The rest of those are perfectly fine and healthy to take together. Also, if you are prone to UTIs, you may want to consider trying D-Mannose (a main constituent of Cranberry, but more potent) and/or Probiotics (which help to maintain a healthy internal ecology and help to fend against many types of bad bacteria). Good luck and I hope I helped!
