Water Ionizers
Question: Are water ionizers junk science? A friend of mine spent a grand on a water ionizer. I tested it for total dissolved solids and it filters out nothing. It reports that it changes the pH, but you could take a bicarb for that. Also I heard that as soon as the water hits your stomach the pH reverts to acidic anyway. Thanks
Answer: Yes. Water ionizers are junk science. Water naturally ionizes when it is disturbed, this is why we have lightening. Your tap water ionizes the moment it leaves your faucet. However, it discharges just as quickly.
You can see an amazing demonstration of the amount of static electricity (ionization) created by flowing water here: http://geeksaresexy.blogspot.com/2007/03/amazing-water-powered-battery.html
Ionized water filters are playing on the success of the air ionizers. The air ionizers are real, and do work very well. But think about the last time you saw a commercial for one. Do you remember how they cleaned the "filter"? Water. The ionizing properties are no match for even a small flow of water. How on earth do they expect an ionized water filter to pull pollutants out of a moving stream?
Not possible. Junk science. I applaud your skepticism; question everything.
Question: are there any Consumer Reports article/reviews about water ionizers? i couldn't find any objective reviews? all the websites that i went have all good reviews but i couldn't seem to find any info that disputes the claim.
Answer: Go to any search engine such as Google, and type in "water ionizer objective reviews"
Question: Do Alkaline Water Ionizers work?
Answer: Uh the guy before me doesn't understand how they work, and most of his chemistry is wrong, so I'd ignore what he said.
Anyhow, someone I knew got one since a relative came down cancer and they were recommended the device. I'm not sure how effective it was (since they did 3 other alternative treatment methods as well to get the recovery), but to some extent that made me a fan.
I essentially support them for 2 reasons:
A) the japanese are big fans of the devices and widely use them for health promotion (whereas many cultures easily get conned into believing certain things are good, the japanese tend to be much more critical, and hence if they have given something widespread adoption it probably works)
B) The theory behind why they have a purpose makes sense to me. If you have an acid and you add a base in, they cancel each other and create water as a byproduct of their reactions. Thus if someone's body is overly acidic, adding basic water to them will shift their ph away from acidity, and by using water, it introduces a method of doing so free of side effects (unlike say eating a strong base).
The Ph theory basically says the items predominant in our modern diet (grains, meats, sugars) promote an acidic ph, while those that used to be in our prehistoric diet (but have since shifted to the processed food diet) such as fresh vegatables promote an alkaline ph. As such, most people in the modern world have excessively acid systems.
Coinciding with this, an interesting observation was made; most pathogens and cancers survive much better in acidic environments, to the point there is a consistent correlation between ph and if a person is sick or not.
Hence, drinking alkalinized water probably helps your health, but ideally one should be eating a pre industrial food diet.
However, complete proof to answer your question is not accessible and would require millions in research. Hence, I strongly suspect they "work" but I have no way to prove it.
Question: where to buy water ionizers in winston-salem north carolina?
Answer: if you get a po box i can send you one im me krystaalvblue.
Question: Come on already! why don't my favorite magazine Consumer report do an objective review about WATER IONIZERS? the one that's on direct selling.
i was and still am trying to be sold and get on to try and buy their product and i just want a scientific report not a testimonial from people who got it and paid 3 grand
Answer: Why? Because it is just another racket AKA ripoff.
Your instincts are good -- you are here on this site. The most important organ in your body may be the B.S. detector!
I'm sure you have a better use for your dough.

Question: Water Ionizers are good.. or are they bad? I was reading on Rawswammy.com and they have me believe that acidic water is bad and also eating vegetables and excercise and juice can cause illnesses.. also.. brushing my teeth is bad.
Answer: Water lonizers are bad because you just said the answer out loud. Eating vegetables and exercising with those water lonizers will cause illnesses.
Question: is our body removes minerals from our body wth toxins after drinkinf alkaline water? i m in trading business of alkaline drinking water ionizer. As this products is costly then RO systems people ask me rubbish question of side effects and i get nervous about it. i request you to reply wth some concrete proofs.
Answer: There is no proof. Alkaline water is bunk as far as health benefits goes. Once in the body, it doesn't even stay alkaline to bring any benefit. Your body changes the pH of whatever is consumed to fit its processing needs.
Question: water ionizer? read an article about health benefits of reduced/ionized water.
seemed quite impressive (even a bit too impressive), do you have or use a water ionizer, are they worth buying? have you felt/seen a noticible change?
Answer: Manufacturers make various claims about the chemical properties of ionized water. A common claim is that in non-ionized water, water molecules form tightly bound clusters, and that ionizing water breaks up those clusters. Manufacturers claim that ionized water is more readily absorbed by the body than ordinary water, and that minerals in ionized water are more readily available to the body. There is an element of truth to the first part; water molecules are held together by hydrogen bonding, and (especially in the presence of cations) can form clusters (see chelation).
Critics argue that water ionizers have no permanent effect on water. Water spontaneously self-ionizes to 10-14 M under normal conditions. If the concentration of these ions is increased (hydroxide and hydronium), then they will react with each other to restore the original concentration. The reaction is very rapid (strong acids and strong bases completely react with each other in seconds, so hydronium hydroxide (or ionized water) should have a half life measured in fractions of a second (or, at best, a few seconds). If the water is removed from normal conditions (e.g. heated) the concentrations may be increased slightly, but not very much, and are reversed when the water is returned to standard conditions. Therefore, water ionizers cannot increase the concentrations of these ions for a significant time, without the addition of oppositely-charged ions, to produce an electrostatically neutral solution.
A link is often made between consumption of non-ionized water and a medical condition known as chronic cellular dehydration. Another claim is that ionized water is an antioxidant. Water ionizer makers claim their product treats chronic diarrhea, Indigestion, Gastrointestinal abnormal fermentation, and Acidosis. These claims are, again, not usually based on empirical evidence, but rather testimonials about individual health benefits.
Question: Does ionized drinking water taste bad? I am skeptical about spending thousands of dollars in buying a ionizer/alkalizer coutertop machine. I heard that the water tastes very bad. Is that true?
Answer: Noooo. It tastes great! You should definitely taste it first before you spend thousands of dollars though. You can get ionizing water bottles online for between $60 and $80.
Question: i need actual side effects of drinking antioxydant alkaline water for long time. really i mean it.? i m in trading business of alkaline drinking water ionizer. As this products is costly then RO systems people ask me rubbish question of side effects and i get nervous about it. i request you to reply wth some concrete proofs.
Answer: I bought a LIFE Ionizer and I have been drinking alkaline water for six months now. I first experienced some diarrhea and frequent urination as my body started to detoxify. I've lost 15 pounds, my skin looks great, and I feel great.
Question: Which type of water is the best for human health? Pi-water, Alkaline ioniser water or others..?
Answer: Overall it's going to depend on your diet. If you get enough macro and microelements from your diet, as far as I am concerned, even distilled water (or purified water, which is not exactly the same as distilled) would be fine. Bottled spring water is fine, as long as it doesn't contain to many heavy metals (some of which are also microelements) or salts. Water with some content of magnesium and calcium is good for you, as these are important elements that take part in many biological processess. Pi-water, alkaline ioniser water and others - these are just cheap tricks used by marketing companies to sell their product without any evidence that it is better than regular tap water. There is no such thing as "healthy water" - as long as the water is free of bacteria and sticks to EPA (or other regulatory agency) guidelines, it's not going to hurt you.
That said, if you have a certain imbalance in your body, there are mineral waters, that can be healthy for you. But there is no "one solution fits all". To completely answer this question without going into physiology and metabolism is essentially impossible. I have just poured myself a glass of Arrowhead Spring Water :)
By the way, I'm not sure of the source, but some studies show, that bottled water can contain different amounts of elements than stated on the label, and in some cases it turned out that companies bottle tap water and market it as spring water. There's no way to determine it without a lab analysis.
If still unsure what to drink - get some tap water, boil it, cool it down and drink it. And if you really want, get an activated charcoal filter, which will remove many odor-causing chemicals (especially chlorine based, that are formed during water treatment) or suggest your water company to use ozone for water treatment.
Question: Do electronic water softeners work? Every plumber I asked said they doubt it.The adds for these electronis ionizers are full of testimonials about how good there water is after installing one. They range in price from $79 to $1000. Common sense says that a coil of wire wrapped
around your pipe, giving off disrupting signals and magnetic discombobulators is playing with my good humor, but I could be wrong. I'd like a non-seller opinion.
Answer: We've had many companies try and get us to sell their electronic water softeners but none of them could really prove to us that they work. I can't imagine that they really do anything. Since we never elected to sell them I guess you could consider this a non-seller opinion.
Question: How to deal with friends who wants to sell you kitchenwares and other stuff thru door-to-door direct selling? like vitamins, water ionizer dispensers and all that stuff....
what's up with these companies? are their products really better and different than the brand ones readily available in leading stores?
their prices are too high and the products seem too good to be true.
Answer: OMG, I had one friend who used to do this. At first I tried to be nice, and went to maybe 3 parties out of 12 I was invited to. And by 12 I mean one a month. I always ended up buying stuff out of guilt and it was always stuff I never needed or wanted. I finally had to tell her the truth. "Beth, I fell like crap when I get an invitation to a party I don't want to go to. I feel even worse when I do go tryin to help you and I buy stuff I don't want. I value our friendship andif you do too you wlll remove me from your mailing lista"
Ok, our friendhip has gone downhill since then, but it is fne. Actually I am better off.
Question: what is the difference between a 300 watt and an 85 watt power supply? There is a water ionizer that boasts a 300 watt power supply (ENAGIC/KANGEN)
There is another water ionizer that boasts an 85 watt power supply (TYENT)
If they both produce the same ORP and the same PH, why should I be concerned about the watts? the power supply? ?????
thank you for helping me.
Answer: if the output voltage is the same the 300 watt power supply will put out much more current.
Question: does drinking water with a pH of 10 lead to Alkalosis? I bought a water ionizer and It splits your water into a higher pH...is this good or bad to drink pH 10 water???
what are the symtoms of Alkalosis and can drinking this water cause Alkalosis??
Answer: It does! well, when you drink that water, the PH of your stomach can lower. and you'll lose H+ ions, but your body counts on a damping mechanism what ensure the PH balance of your body! But do not drink that water for a long time...
