Wheatgrass
Question: wheatgrass? is there really a point in taking wheatgrass juice if you already have a healthy diet?
Answer: It takes abit of getting used to, I used to go to a health food store in the 70-80's and get my daily shot, the first time you drink it it can be a bit of a time to swallow, but after that it is easier, I like mine with fresh carrot juice and a splash of tabasco sauce.
Now they sell a supplement called Daily Greens, but it is a combination of things, straight wheatgrass juice is still the best, Skol!!!
Question: What is the difference between wheatgrass & rocket leaves, for instance? Hello. As most of us, including me, do not own a farm or land, and only a few have a garden in which to grow lots of fresh wheatgrass that can keep a whole family fed wheatgrass on a daily basis, we end up buying wheatgrass dried in sachets or whatever. And I am a little bit skeptic about getting the maximum benefit from it being dried that way.
So a question suddenly hit me one day: why not just eat green leaves like rocket leaves or watercress salad? And I'm not including lettuce, because I do realize that rocket leaves is in a very different league from lettuce.
So how about that? Buying fresh rocket leaves on a daily basis and eating them? Wouldn't that be more beneficial than drinking dried powder of wheatgrass? Or is there something about wheatgrass specifically as a species that makes it stand out so much?
Please include references or links in your answer when relevant.
Many thanks for everyone taking the time to help & give tips & information.
Answer: You can grow them at home using fish boxes (polystyrol) and soil for plants. You only need a little space tohave your home-made wheatgrass.
Question: How do I keep my wheatgrass from molding? I grow my own wheatgrass in 12"x6" pan w/ holes in the bottom for proper drainage. The wheatgrass is planted in 1" soil and is lightly watered whenever it gets dry. It always ends up moldng! Help, please.
Answer: I'm not a big fan about copy/pasting but considering no oneanswered your question after 6 days, I did a little research and here is the results!
Growing Tips
Mold
Wheatgrass is very prone to mold! To control the mold here are a few steps you can take:
1. Don't soak your seed longer than 8 hours and plant right after you finish soaking, this will help stop the mold from developing.
2. Water with Real (Mineral) Salt, or elemite when the wheatgrass is very young. 1 Tablespoon per gallon.
3. Keep the growing temperature somewhat cool (70 degrees) and also dry.
4. If you still have mold, you can power rinse the mold off before you juice.
Ideal Weather
If it is too cold outside (50 degrees and below) where you are growing your grass, the wheatgrass will grow very slowly. If you let it get below 32 degrees, it will freeze. Anything above about 75-80 degrees and your wheatgrass will not thrive. Under the hot conditions you will experience more mold, and the roots will go sour and sometimes cause the grass to wilt. The ideal conditions for wheatgrass and barleygrass are 1) indirect sunlight, and 2) moderate weather (70 degrees)
Growing Space
Space often can become a problem once you start growing lots of wheatgrass and sprouts. Very inexpensive racks can be purchased from a local hardware store, or you can make a rack with PVC pipes. This seems to be a better solution for those who have their wheatgrass scattered all over their kitchen. Another solution is a new Greenhouse we have found it is located on our web site at: http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/greenhouses.htm Currently it is available in the 4-tier (holds 8 flats of wheatgrass) and 2-tier models (holds 4 flats of wheatgrass). The greenhouse has a zip up thick plastic cover, which provides a unique greenhouse environment for your wheatgrass, and other plants.
Old Grass
If you don’t use the grass fast enough, your wheatgrass will get old, so here is a good solution! Whether you buy or grow your own flat of wheatgrass, if you don’t use the grass fast enough it begins to turn yellow and wilt (because it has used all the minerals from the soil.) Right as it begins to tinge yellow, cut all the rest of the grass off of the flat and put it in a plastic bag in your refrigerator. The grass will last for about one week after it is cut.
Good luck!
Question: how do I start a wheatgrass business in my house? Hello every one. I am fascinated about the benefits of wheatgrass and have been taking it for years.Recently I started growing my own in my apartment.I now am brainstorming on a idea to sell to the public. did anyone here ever here of any one starting a operation such as this. I just want to know about agriculture laws and the feasibility of such an idea(since I dont at the time have a garden space). I ask that people who have such experience or know someone who has a similiar operation to answer.(perhaps someone who grows herbs in there apartment similarly)
also when I tried to research the category according to the FDA of what wheatgrass(still attached to roots in soil)falls into-produce,plant, , food supplement etc. it is very confusing of what it is considered can you tell me this to?
Answer: go to a fertilized land where wheat easily grows and go but some seed and plant it
Question: Can I freeze wheatgrass juice and have the same health benefits? I've bought too much wheatgrass and was wondering if I juiced it and then froze the extra, to store, will it retain the same nutrients as if it were fresh? What will it lose if frozen?
Answer: It is best if you drink it fresh.
Wheatgrass is a raw, living food and when juiced features 100% bioavailability. This makes it a tremendously accessible source of nutrition. Many of the products available to us today have been denatured through processing. Even those that we think may help us, like a vitamin tablet, not only have a fraction of the nutrients available, they only have 10% - 20% bioavailability.
This is important because the human body needs nutrition. Essentially, our bodies orchestrate endless, complex chemical reactions that we call life. Each process requires a precise combination of nutrients including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and essential fatty acids to function properly. When a vital component is missing, a process will either be abandoned, require excessive amounts of energy to complete or simply malfunction.
Wheatgrass juice is created by harvesting wheat during its young, grassy stage at a height of 7 - 11 inches. At this point, it is loaded with living energy and when squeezed, the tender young blades express a rich, dark green liquid called wheatgrass juice. Wheatgrass juice is a complete food or super food because the broad spectrum of nutrition can single handedly support the body. When consumed in a raw / living state, wheatgrass juice contains well over 100 known vitamins, minerals, amino acids, enzymes, essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants. The buttons below show what is in wheatgrass and what bodily functions each nutrient supports. You will be amazed at how important each component is in supporting life. Click below for details:
Question: What is the nutritional value of wheatgrass? Is it true that a shot of wheatgrass is nutritionally similar to your five a day? I have a teaspoon of wheatgrass powder in my smoothies everyday, is this enough if this is the case?
Answer: Wheatgrass is considered to be a complete food in itself. The fact is that one pound of fresh wheatgrass is equivalent in nutritional value to 23 pounds of choice garden vegetables. Due to its fibrous nature, which is indigestible by humans, wheatgrass must be liquefied before it can be consumed
This nutrient-rich grass contains 17 amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins. The body uses these amino acids for things like building muscle tissue, repairing cells and clotting the blood. Wheatgrass retains 92 of the 102 minerals found in the soil. These minerals include calcium, phosphorus, iron, magnesium and potassium. It is a rich natural source of vitamins A and C. Wheatgrass has more vitamin C than oranges and twice the vitamin A of carrots. It is exceptionally rich in vitamins E, K, and B-complex. It is also a natural source of laetrile (B-17).
Question: How can I make a facial with wheatgrass powder? Hi, I just got some wheatgrass powder to drink on a daily basis. Since it's super loaded with vitamins and minerals I'd like to use it on my skin. I tried making a paste with water but it was very clumpy and didn't stay on well. What can I mix with the powder so that it stays on and the wheatgrass is absorbed into my skin? Would using an oil block the absorption?
Answer: yes it would...try mixing with milk
Question: How can I grow this wheatgrass at home? I bought one of those little containers of (already grown) wheatgrass for my bunny. He ate all of it in a day, but then I noticed it already grew like an inch by morning and I was going to throw it away until I saw that. So now 3 days later its already a few inches long. Theres no soil in it that I can see. Its just like a little black container with seeds and roots at the bottom. Can I somehow keep this alive or plant it indoors in a pot or something?
Answer: That's pretty much it, just add water to the seeds. The grass will do better in some soil. Give it water and sunlight and it'll grow. Do several pots so the bunny can 'mow' them in turn while the others are regrowing.
You should be able to buy the seeds and other supplies at a garden center. Pet shops might carry the seeds also, consider growing other herbs in pots and you can share them. Bon appetite.
Question: Has anyone had any significant health benefits by taking Wheatgrass regularly? I've been taking Wheatgrass for 5days now and my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) seems to have disappeared so far. Has anyone had significant health benefits by taking Wheatgrass on a regular basis?
Answer: I personally haven't but i work at a health food store that serves it and we have regulars who come in everyday swearing that it is more nutritious then any vegetable u could eat and also that they physically have never felt better.

Question: How much quantity of wheatgrass may be taken to decrease the level of fsh please advise urgent? I am 42 yrs.old (female) and mY FSH level is high .I happen to see an advise of yours to a lady, stating that consumption of wheat grass may decrease her fsh level. Moreover,I have only one ovary too. So,please help me how much quantity of wheatgrass should i take everyday and will it help me in reducing may fsh level. Its very urgent since i want to start my treatment next month.
Answer: Hi,
I am 40 and ttc after an m/c at 12 weeks at age 38. I have just this week started on the wheat grass and have never had my fsh checked. I've heard quite a few stories of women lowering their fsh with it, so I am hopeful. I am currently taking tablets, and it says you can take up to 7 per day, but I am starting with two. I think overdoing anything can be problematic as well, so I always start small with any herb/supplement to see how my body reacts.
I hear acupuncture is also good for lowering fsh. I just had a session today, so we will see. I am probably going to continue both the wheat grass and acupuncture before I see an RE and have my fsh levels checked.
Good luck!!
Question: where can I buy wheatgrass seed in Richmond Hill? I want to make some wheatgrass juice for myself and plant a small pot of grass for my cats. Thank you!
Answer: The other option is to just get the juice from DynamicGreens whose farm is located just a 20 minute drive north of Richmond Hill. This eliminates the challenges and inconvenience of growing and your cats will love it.
Here is a quote from a customer that posted on our site:
"Then I mixed the juice with my cats' ground raw meat. Because of the extra fluid, everyone would run to the litter box after eating to pee. All my cats are 9 years old and litter mates. The one cat in particular who isn't in the greatest health and never has a "nice" coat....It's always just kind of dry, dull and dirty looking... Well, now after about a week of wheatgrass almost every day...All of a sudden it is shiny, soft and smooth. It's never been like this ever..and it's not from a lack of EFA's because he gets those everyday."
We ship throughout North America but being local, you can just come to the farm and pickup any amount you choose. by the way, it can do wonders for humans too! You can check out our website at http://www.dynamicgreens.com or call us at 1-877-910-0467.
Question: what is the distance you keep ott-lites over wheatgrass plants to grow them indoors? I want to start growing wheatgrass plants indoors with ott-lites, the set up will be rows of them, filling a 15x15 space. is the whole room being lit up by ott-lites efficient to grow them (or any other plants)or does it need to be really close to the plant.
This is a very important project to me, I ask please that only those with this experience answer, not opinions,
Thank you
Answer: Don't waste your money on Ott Lites. Go to Home Depot and get regular compact fluorescent light bulbs. (That's all an Ott lite is but they promote as something special and charge you 5 times the price)
This is what to look for to get the correct lights.
1. For root and stem development (seed to seedling stage)get a lamp (bulb) that says either "Warm White" or has a color designation of "2700 K" or "2700 Kelvin" This lamp produces UV light in the red to green spectrum.
2. For leaf and seed/fruit development look for the term "Daylight" or "5,000K" or "5,000 Kelvin" (If you can find one that is higher then 5000 get that. You may be able to find one at 6500 K. This color emites light in the blue green spectrum and is close to sunlight in terms of UV light emission.
3. If you only can afford one color go with the daylight bulb from the start. It won't hurt anything it's just the "warm white" will promote root and stem growth a little better.
Think of it as when plant first start growing outdoors the sun is low in the sky and has a "redder" color to it then during the middle of the summer when it's higher in the sky ind is brither and whiter then in the spring.
regarding how close: As close as you can while ensuring all plants get light would be better. These lights do no put out a lot of heat so you will be able to get pretty close.
You can also find the 4 foot tube fluorescents in different colors as well although daylight ones are harder to find. That way if want to use fluorescent fixtures you can.
