Whey Protein Isolate
Question: How much better is whey protein isolate over whey protein concentrate? I'm looking to buy some whey protein to help build muscle. I notice that the most expensive ones contain whey protein isolate, whereas the cheaper one have more, or only, whey protein concentrate and/or casien. How much better is wpi over wpc?
(Not looking for individual product recommendations, thanks)
Answer: See site below for more on whey.
Question: Best whey isolate protein for the money? I've been using GNC Pro Performance whey protein isolate. It's great stuff; low cholesterol, good protein, and tastes like good chocolate milk, but I was wondering if there was a cheaper and/or better alternative. I know I'm paying for the GNC logo on the bottle...
I haven't had much time to sift through every online protein store that's trying to promote their own product to find the best one.
Thanks in advance

The GNC Pro Performance Whey Isolate 28 is $40 for a 32 oz container. 25 servings so that's $1.60 per serving and $.057 per gram of protein.
I'm in the Boston, MA/ Portland, ME areas. I was thinking I could find a deal online for a product that's just as good or better, but I don't know what I should get since there's so many.
I've come across some cool sites while I was looking.
Bulk Foods - very good info on protein quality and knowing what you're getting. Good prices too.

Question: Is chocolate milk after a workout better for me than whey protein isolate? I have just recently heard that chocolate milk is the absolute best thing you can have after a workout. I am 16 and I would like to know if this is true. I already take whey isolate after my workouts but I want to know if chocolate milk is better.
Answer: Whey protein is the best (nothing is absorbed faster) and since milks protein is only about 20% whey ... the protein isolate (about 90%) will be much better for your muscle building.
Question: What whey protein isolate gives you the fastest, best results.? I work out about 4-5 times a week and currently am taking Fitness Lab whey protein dutch choclate isolate.
Answer: As long as the whey as certified as it being in its purest form, such as 100% pure whey isolate, then it should all work just as efficiently as eachother.
I am currently taking whey everyday and it is inexpensive because I buy it in bulk. I take on in the morning mixed with orange juice, one after a workout, and one at night time. I have to get casein powder for night time because it is a way slower digesting protein the benefits muscle gain during sleep. Anyway it will all come in time, remember to keep having whey in your diet, and the muscles will come in time.
Question: Can anybody recommend any good Whey Protein Isolate shakes? Hi can anybody recommend any good Whey Protein Isolate protein shakes that are virtually fat, carb and lactose free and does not cause any bloatedness. I have been looking on the internet for hours and I can only find one with whey protein concentrate mixed in but I am only looking for the ones that only contain whey protein isolate.
Answer: Remeber that whey protein isolate digests very quickly and if you are looking to build muscle you need a more complete protein supplementation approach. It is great for right after training, but as a supplement to take many times a day, not so good.
Look for something with whey concentrate, isolate, calcium caseinate, etc in it for your other protein. BSN makes a great one called Syntha 6. It is fantastic and tastes great.

Question: Does Whey Protein Isolate have less lactose compared to whey concentrate?? Currently i am using egg protein and have tried GNC 100 percent whey concentrate protein and it was horrible, i will never take any whey concentrate protein again even if its not gnc, but i am very curious about whey isolate. But i want to know before i buy it. Thank you.
Answer: Yes. Whey protein isolate differs from whey protein concentrate in that the fat and lactose are processed out of the isolate form. As a result, whey protein isolate is a much higher percentage of protein when measured by weight; you could say that it is a more pure form of protein. It is also more expensive. You may already be aware of this, but whey protein in general, is the fastest absorbing and fastest burning protein available. I recommend that you stick with some form of it for post workout nourishment.
I personally use and recommend products that contain a blend of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate and most importantly that taste good. If you're not happy with the flavor of what you're using you might want to try what I'm using. I use the XS brand. They have it in powder form and in pre-made cans. The strawberries and cream is my favorite flavor. XS brand products are hard to find so here's a link to the health store that I've been getting mine from for the last four years: http://www.keylagohealth.com
They've been a good company to buy from and offer a money-back guarantee on all of their products (they even pay for the shipping on returns). They also carry a wide variety of top quality nutritional products that I couldn't find locally.
I hope this helps.
Question: what is the best tasting whey protein isolate powder or bar? i'm looking for a whey protein isolate powder or bar that taste great and is available either in gnc or drugstrore.com. Please include the flavor you like and any pros or cons about the product. thanks!
Answer: Taste? quality? Price? If you want all three with a chemical free whey, try http://www.buybulkwhey.com No BS product...THE WHEY VOLUTION IS COMING!!!!!! Get what you pay for
Question: Which WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE should i use because i am lactose intolerance and my stomach does not tolerate WPC. I have tried whey protein concentrate and it gave me diarrhea, cramps, bloating, so i am scared about trying whey isolate, i heard it has low lactose to no lactose at all, i am wondering is it even true. please good response will help a lot, thanks.
Answer: ISOPURE is a brand of protein that is lactose free. I have used the powder and I liked it pretty good but I didn't care too much for the flavor of the clear kind that they have. My friend loves the clear but I think it has a funny taste. By the way, it isn't totally clear, it's like colored but you can see through it and it comes in flavors like sour apple and stuff like that. You could try it but if you do, only buy one bottle and try it out before you waste your money. Do ask about the powdered form to make extra sure that it is lactose free but I'm pretty sure that it is. You can also get soy and rice protein as well and they sell that stuff at GNC I know for sure.
Try this link http://www.gnc.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=isopure&origkw=isopure&sr=1
it's the GNC website with all of the isopures listed. If you aren't sure about the whey isolate which is what this is then you can buy just one packet of that powered form just to try and see if you like it. I know that they sell it in serving size packets. Good luck with everything.
Question: Which of Whey Protein Isolate OR Whey Protein Blend is Better for Bulking Up and Gaining Muscle Mass? Im looking at myproteins impact blend (whey protien isolate and concentrate) OR Whey Protein Isolate. Which would be better for gaining weight, muscle and bulk? cheers!
Answer: The benefit of the Isolate is that it digests very quickly and gets to your muscles the fastest. It is perfect for post workout.
A blend contains different protein sources - egg, casein, maybe soy and possibly others. These all digest over longer periods of time. The benefit to this is your muscle are being fed over a longer period of time. A good blend has isolate in it to get quick muscle feeding started. If you were only getting one protein the blend is probably the Whey to go.
Here is a series of articles on protein - very good info and good deals as well.
Question: Why does Whey Protein Isolate have Amino Acids in them? Do all Whey Protein Isolates have Amino Acids in them? Why?
Why are their Essential/Conditional/Non-Essential sometimes?
Answer: Proteins are made of amino acids, without amino cids there are no proteins. Each protein is made of a chain of 20 amino acids each of which is unique. You want the highest quality amino acids you can get.The reason there are essential and non essential etc is that your body will need some of them to survive and then there are some that are helpful but not necessary. It doesnt matter if its an isolate or not, anything with protein has amino acids.
Question: Can Whey Protein Isolate cause diahrrea? Any known hazards with Whey Isolate? Are there any hazards to consuming say more than 1/.2 pound (~220 grams) a day for protein supplementation to build and maintain muscle?
Answer: im sure it will cause gastrointestinal problems
youll prolly fart a lot
Question: Is there any side effects from taking whey protein isolate? I do not have diabetes but will taking whey protein damage my liver or my pancreas? Will it spike insulin levels or cause blood sugar problems. I understand that a big mac hamburger contains 30 grams of protein and so does a serving of whey so Im not concerned about any kidney damage. I just want a extra boost in energy is it safe>or is it even going to give me Extra Fuel i need?
Answer: There are side effects.
Firstly, large amounts of protein make blood more acidic. To neutralize the blood, calcium is drawn from the bones. Also, production of free radicals increases, so you should counter it with a lot of antioxidants .
Secondly, (this is not common knowledge, see Dr. Russel Blaylock's books and website) any protein isolate contains exitotoxins similar to MSG that increase level of free glutamate in the body. Glutamate cause neurons to be super exited, and then die (very simplified explanation) The effect can be as devastating as Alzheimer's in the far future or some health issues here in there in the near future - depending on what is the weak spot in your body. One person can get depressed for example, nothing would happen to another. So please use protein isolates with caution.
If you need energy boost, consider complex carbs (nuts/seeds/grains), they do not cause insulin spike because sugar gets into the blood gradually. And they contain plant protein. Almonds, for example, have a plethora of health benefits, and 21% of weight is protein. You may also consider using superfoods like maca , ginseng etc.
Hope this helps
Olga.
Question: How does Pea Protein Isolate compare to Whey Protein Isolate in terms of digestion and absorbtion time? I want to take pea protein but want it in and absorbed in my system quickly.
thanks
Answer: No type of protein is absorbed as fast as whey....it gets into the blood system in as little as 1/2 hour after ingestion! Also, whey has more complete protein molecules than pea protein does, as well as more BCAA's(branched chain, amino acids).
I'd stick with the whey for at least 75% of your protein supplement, especially right after exercising. I'd use the pea protein with my morning carbs for breakfats, where they'll last longer and digest slower.
Question: What is the difference between whey protein isolate and whey protein supplement? Why would I use on instead of the other?
Answer: Whey protein isolate is a higher purity protein with a higher BV (biological value) than whey protein concentrate. This means that it is more quickly available to the body than other forms of protein, making it superior for pre and post workout protein supplementation but not so good other times of the day when a lower BV is more desireable. Lower BV from whole foods are more "time released" helping to maintain a positive nitrogen balance and keep the body in a continually anabolic state.
Question: What's the difference between Whey Protein Isolate and Whey Protein Concentrate? Which one is better? Do they both give you the gassy bloated feeling?
Answer: Whey protein concentrate differs from whey protein isolate in a few ways. The concentrate form has low levels of fat and lactose and is a lower percentage of protein when measured by weight. The isolate form has had the fat and lactose removed and is 90%+ protein by weight. Needless to say, whey protein isolate is a more pure form of protein and is consequently more expensive. Because it's more pure, you can elude that the isolate would be a better product, as it would fuel and nourish your muscles faster when used within 30 minutes after a workout. Whey protein in general is faster absorbing and faster burning than any other form of protein. This is why it is recommended post workout.
The flip side to that is that it will not keep you feeling full for long periods of time. Since people typically desire to consume protein shakes as a meal replacement (not as an additional meal), I personally prefer and recommend products that have whey protein isolate listed as an ingredient, usually in a blend (unless the person is lactose intolerant; obviously then, the isolate only form would be preferred). Since the concentrate form has low levels of fat and lactose, it will keep you feeling full longer, as these take longer to metabolize. This is why I like the blend. You'll get the quick muscle nourishment of the isolate and the slightly slower metabolism of the concentrate. Unfortunately, blends are also expensive.
I have heard people complain of the "gassy bloated feeling" that you mentioned, but I have not experienced it with the products that I currently use. You might want to give them a try. I use XS brand protein powder and pre-made, canned shakes. I love the strawberries and cream one. Both of these products use a blend of whey protein isolate and whey protein concentrate; perfect in my opinion. Since they are hard to find, I'll provide a link to the health store that I buy mine from: http://www.keylagohealth.com . They carry all top quality products, usually that you can't find locally and offer a money-back guarantee on everything.
I hope this helps
Question: is whey protein isolate good or bad for building Muscles? how many time u should take it per day? and do u take it less in the day u dont work out or dosent matter?
Answer: Whey protein is great for building muscle. Muscle=Protein. The more protein you consume, the more muscle mass you should build.
I agree with that having two shakes a day is a good idea. However, the times to consume them will vary upon who you ask. Some people say it's a good idea to have one in the morning and one post workout. Some people say that you should have one within two hours before working out and two hours after working out. Some people say to have one at night before bed. It really depends on your lifestyle and what you are hoping to gain. I personally have one in the morning with breakfast and one after my workout; it's what works best for me.
If you're looking for a good place to get some protein powder, I recommend BulkFoodsDirect.com. They have a great product at a fair price. It's unflavored, so it's quite easy to add to most meals and works well in a shake with a banana or some berries.
